Sally Mann was born in 1951 and is an American photographer, best known for her large format and black and white photographs. At first she took photos of her young children, then later moved more into landscapes suggesting death and decay. She was born in Lexington Virginia and had two older brothers. Sally Mann was introduced to photography by her father, Robert Munger. Her father encouraged her taking photos. After earning a B.A from the Hollins University, Mann worked as a photographer at Washington and Lee University. In the mid-1970s she photographed the construction of its new law school building, the Lewis Hall. She's most famous for photographing her children and in some they where naked. This caused for a lot of controversy in the media to which she always said that they where the ones making it inappropriate. This did end up causing a lot of trauma for her children. They would often have pose for hours and some thought that she took her art more seriously than being there for her kids as mom.
Im really interested in Sally Mann because of how unique and different the composition of her photos are. I also love the warm black and white look her photos tend to have.
